GRANITE FALLS — The No. 2N Yellow Medicine East baseball team opened the Section 3A tournament with a pair of wins, defeating No. 7N Canby 11-5 and No. 3N Lac qui Parle Valley 2-1 in nine innings on Saturday.
Against Canby, Tyler Nordaune led YME with three hits and three RBI while Bryce Sneller added two hits, including a home run, and an RBI and Nikson Knapper had a hit and two RBI.
Caleb Jans earned the win in relief for YME, going 6 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on four hits and struck out six.
Jordan Ries led Canby with three hits while Hunter Cleveland and Sawyer Drietz each had a hit and two RBI and Easton Antony and Kaden Reyerson each had a hit.
Reyerson took the loss on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings while allowing seven runs on six hits and struck out one.
With the loss, Canby ends its season with a 1-15 record.
Against LQPV, Cody Dahlager led YME with two hits – including the game-winning base hit in the bottom of the ninth – and two RBI while Sneller and Nordaune each added a hit. Sneller earned the victory in relief, tossing the final inning. Knapper earned the start, going eight innings while allowing one run on four hits and struck out seven.
YME (14-5) will face No. 1N MACCRAY on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Raymond.
No. 2S RTR 3, No. 7S Edgerton/SWC 2
No. 6S Adrian/Ellsworth 8, No. 2S RTR 2
RUTHTON — The No. 2S Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team split a pair of games to start the Section 3A tournament on Saturday, defeating No. 7S Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian 3-2 before falling to No. 6S Adrian/Ellsworth 8-2.
Against Edgerton/SWC, Cody Wichmann, Jack Christianson and Isaac Dagel led RTR with a hit and an RBI each. Cody Wichmann also earned the win on the mound, going seven innings while allowing two runs on two hits and struck out 14.
Against Adrian/Ellsworth, Aiden Wichmann, Cody Wichmann and Hayden Gravley led RTR with a hit each.
Sam Nibbe took the loss in relief on the mound, going 1 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on two hits. Gravley earned the start, going 3 1/3 innings while allowing one run on one hit and struck out eight.
RTR (12-6) will face No. 1S Wabasso in the consolation bracket on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Lamberton.
Bird Island 7, Milroy Yankees 4
BIRD ISLAND — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team fell to Bird Island 7-4 on Sunday.
David Schmidt led the Yankees with two hits and two RBI while Matt Bauer added two hits and Aaron Mathiowetz, Jake Tauer and Jackson Hughes each had a hit.
Isaac Schmitt took the loss on the mound, going 7 1/3 innings while allowing six runs on seven hits and struck out eight.
The Yankees (5-2) will face Wabasso at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Raymond 11, Granite Falls 0
GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls amateur baseball team fell to Raymond 11-0 on Sunday.
Kyle TeBeest, Jordan Odegard and Brandon Grund led Granite Falls with a hit each.
Dalton Anderson earned the start, going one inning while allowing three runs on two hits and struck out one. Bennett Knapper tossed eight innings in relief, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and struck out six.
Granite Falls (2-2) will face Sacred Heart on the road next Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Marshall 13, Wabasso 4
WABASSO — The Marshall amateur baseball team defeated Wabasso 13-4 on Sunday.
Zach Olson led Marshall with three hits and five RBI while Logan Tomasek added two hits and three RBI, Matt Hmielewski had three hits and two RBI, Doug Mead had three hits and Zach Olsen had a hit and two RBI.
Hmielewski earned the victory on the mound, going six innings while allowing one run on two hits and struck out four.
Samuel Guetter led Wabasso with two hits and two RBI while Ryan Liebl had a hit and an RBI and Carter Guetter, Cole Frericks and Brock Rohlik each had a hit.
Devan Liebl took the loss on the mound, going seven innings while allowing five runs on 10 hits and struck out six.
Marshall (3-6) will face Dawson on the road on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. while Wabasso (0-4) will face the Milroy Yankees on the road on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
